Board of Officers & Directors 2016/2017

Heather Walker - President

Heather fenceHeather believes “Leadership is the art of making it look like so much fun that everyone wants to play”.
Why the transition from Membership Chair to President? Her growth as Membership Chair was complete. She could not become what she feels she needed to be by remaining where she was…it was time to get uncomfortable and take on new challenges, a new game and new experiences.

A SWAN member since 2011, Heather looks forward to another 2 years in a leadership role as SWAN President.

An eye for detail, a zest for connecting and an interest in others, Heather is a successful Virtual Assistant. Her company, Virtually Behind the Scenes cuts through the clutter, the confusion and the challenges of business and office administration. Powered by experience and driven by your need to get “stuff” done, Heather creates space, time and processes for you to grow…your business too.  Her website is

Blanche Boyce - Membership

blancheboyce-web-0824bestBlanche is passionate about all aspects of Chinese medicine having witnessed how effective it is for both health promotion and remedial care. She has a private practice as an Acupressure Therapist (acupuncture without needles) and a Medical Qi Gong Therapist. She has witnessed how her work adds years to people’s lives and puts life into those years. Her business is called Qi Essence Bodywork for Health and Longevity.

When not working one-on-one with clients, Blanche teaches Tai Chi and Qi Gong movement. These graceful arts are also based on Chinese medicine and are practiced world-wide by millions of people for the amazing health benefits they produce. Blanche likes to think of Tai Chi and Qi Gong as Movement, Meditation and Medicine all in one package. She teaches in North Vancouver and Burnaby.

Blanche joined SWAN a couple of years ago and was inspired by the number of women who were growing personally as well as growing their businesses with the help of networking events. Part of SWAN’s focus is about building relationship in addition to building business; Blanche likes how this approach to business embodies the principles of Tai Chi & Qi Gong – Balance, Harmony and Peace. Knowing that true growth only happens when one steps out of one’s comfort zone, Blanche decided to ‘step-up’ this year into the role of Membership Chair - she looks forward to the growth ahead!

Blanche is an active member of her North Vancouver community where she lives with her husband and dog and occasionally one or more daughters.

Tamara MacDonald – Secretary

Tamara-photo-smTamara is a Professional Real Estate Stager and the owner of Tweak Home Staging and Redesign. Home décor has always been Tamara’s passion; but in the quest to fulfill other dreams of getting married and having a family, her vision of becoming a Home Stager was put “on the back burner” for many years. After graduating from UBC with a degree in Psychology, Tamara spent seven years in the Banking Industry before leaving to support her husband in his quest to open his own restaurant. Two successful restaurants, and 6 years later, Tamara was able to break away from the Food and Hospitality Industry and pursuit her passion of working in Home Décor. She spent a few years managing a popular home decorating store, and then felt it was time to realize her dream of becoming a Home Stager and started her own business.
Tamara soon recognized that networking is a wonderful way to connect with people and grow her business. She has found SWAN to be most beneficial and rewarding, as it has afforded her the opportunity to meet, experience, and work with a fantastic group of women entrepreneurs.
Tamara’s past volunteer experience includes the role of School Administrator & Secretary on the Parent Committee at the Anna Wyman School of Dance Arts, and as Visitor Host for Business Networking International.
Tamara is happily married with two teenaged children, three dogs and a cat. A self-described “foodie”, she enjoys spending time with her friends drinking good wine and eating her husband’s amazing cuisine!

Lara Hildebrandt - Communications Chair

200pxLara_2078aLara’s reason for joining SWAN was mainly to give back, to meet with like-minded entrepreneurial women every month, and make friends in North Vancouver. She has added social networking to her business in the past year and was the first blogger within her licenser. She just recently joined Twitter and got a HootSuite (Vancouver based business!) account.

She is naturally someone who wants to share, teach, and support people; this is apparent in her financial planning services. She helps people every day to realize their goals and dreams, even hers.

For the past four years to the present she and a friend are co-presidents of Froggers Anonymous, a successful yarn club, which grows every month and surprises and surpasses her expectations every month. They had a vision of a group that meets to teach, learn, and support each other within the group. They also go on ‘field trips’ which are always a big hit.

When not networking and running a club, you can find Lara spending time with her husband Dan, mountain biking or snowboarding, or getting scratched by her lovely cat, Squiggles.
