Maralyn Wild - July 2013 July2013-Lara Hildebrandt

Maralyn Wild

Wild West Communications

Maralyn got her start freelancing in photography, radio and print media – assignments that took her to some of the world’s remotest regions. It was while travelling in Tibet that she met her husband, a journalist for the UK’s Telegraph newspaper group.  Looking at their combined skills, they realized that what they loved to do could be developed into a business.  In 2011, they began Wild West Communications, offering website design, photography, video, newsletters and press releases.  Specializing in producing custom websites, they offer a complete package, from design and content writing, through to web hosting.

The business enables Maralyn to balance the demands of a young family, which also includes hosting international students. While the nature of the business is working evenings and weekends, the advantage of this is the ability to take time off to take the children to school every day.

Maralyn’s business advice is to identify your core skills – and let them shine! She explains: “Find a niche in the market where you can make a difference and prosper.  Start small and concentrate on what you do best and most important, the sharper the knife edge the better.”

For Maralyn, SWAN is a constant source of inspiration. A community of women in different businesses who are facing the same challenges, and coming up with a variety of ingenious strategies, provides both support and an environment for learning.

Another interest of Marlyn’s is cooking. She runs classes teaching the skills she’s gained at places as diverse as hotel restaurants in Vietnam to truck stops in India.

Lara Hildebrandt

Financial Advisor

Lara is an award winning financial planner who has grown up with the business.  Her Mom was a single Mom and so Lara learned the business pretty much by osmosis.   Lara continues to love to learn and be inspired by her mother, who is her business partner, mentor and friend at Hildebrandt Consulting.

Lara is a talented lady who graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a BFA.  She formed her own business in the wedding industry for thirteen years before she went into financial planning; she also attended Swan during that time.

As a financial advisor, Lara loves working directly with her clients and helping them to reach their goals and dreams.  She says she is not a “cookie cutter” person.

Lara is an independent financial advisor who uses the four cornerstones of financial security as a guide for all her clients’ planning. She guides her clients through all the various life milestones of financial planning. Lara likes to work with entrepreneurial thinkers and leads them through the growth stages concentrating on financial security and effective tax planning, then eventually through to estate conservation.

Lara enjoys meeting all the entrepreneurial women at Swan and really makes an effort to meet new people each time.  She has volunteered to be our new director of communication this year.  Thank you Lara. We can look forward to having this enthusiastic, creative and energetic lady helping to lead Swan in the 2013/2014 year ahead.

Lara enjoys mountain biking and snowboarding outdoors and knitting, reading and movies indoors.
