Marney Jung

Marney’s Bookkeeping

In 2000, after having worked for more than 20 years at a large financial institution, Marney Jung found herself unexpectedly downsized and forced to reassess her career path. She chose to go back to school to upgrade her bookkeeping skills. Bookkeeping was a natural fit for Marney: She comes from a long line of accountants and bookkeepers, including her father and grandfather and several family members.
It was a challenging yet rewarding time in her life. While working part-time at night and managing a family, Marney went to school full-time during the day and received honours in her studies.
While she admitted that being downsized had initially been scary, she knew she had no choice but to move on. It is because of this can-do attitude that Marney was able to juggle school, family and work, and to ultimately succeed in her own bookkeeping business. Her advice for new entrepreneurs is to get good training, never dwell on mistakes, and keep moving forward no matter what!
As an experienced and successful bookkeeper for the past eight years, Marney is passionate about helping her small- to medium-sized business clients save time and money. Her favourite clients are the ones making a positive difference in the world.
As a member of SWAN for the past five years, Marney enjoys hearing the various guest speakers and meeting women from all kinds of businesses. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, and going to the gym.

Laurie McLean

Handy Gal Tools & Projects

Laurie McLean has a natural affinity for helping others and does so with such generosity and care.   She can often be heard endorsing a fellow SWAN member’s business, and her quick wit and humour are always a welcome addition to any interaction.
The recent launch of her blog site Handy Gals Tools & Projects is the new home of her service business, Handy Granddaughter, inspired by caring for her grandmother; her promotion of Tomboy Tools, ergonomically designed hand and power tools for women; and a place to support women by sharing tips, techniques, and how-to’s to complete their own DIY projects with confidence.
Laurie credits her regular attendance at SWAN meetings with helping her to break out of her shell, to become more comfortable asking for help, and to clarify her message.  Building a successful business from scratch is an accomplishment Laurie can be proud of.  She has made great friends in the process and really enjoyed her time serving as a SWAN Board member for two years.
She encourages new entrepreneurs to get out and meet people, to be truly genuine and recommends not discounting their services when starting out.
Laurie has a passion for exploring and can often be found hiking and snowshoeing with Fresh Air Life, heading off on a road trip or a long-distance cycle.
