Sue Dickie - Wear Those Deals

Sue Dickie
Wear Those Deals

Sue Dickie created and runs WearThoseDeals, a website that features local boutiques and on-line shops, by offering deals on clothing and accessories.

Sue worked part-time as a dental hygienist for many years, so is new to business. Swan has introduced her to fabulous women and presentations about marketing and branding, which she loves. Like many entrepreneurs TIME is an obstacle, so Sue gets up early to make time count. Her husband and children are super-supportive and this has made all the difference to developing a viable business.

“Prepare to work harder than you’ve ever done!” is her advice to new entrepreneurs and “definitely follow your passion“. Take time, do due diligence, evaluate before jumping into things; choose what’s right for you.

Sue always loved fashion, growing up amid fabrics as her Mom sewed costumes for figure skaters, in particular, Karen Magnussen. Noticing that other deal-sites like Groupon, and EthicalDeal weren't exclusively fashion, she grabbed the opportunity and founded a fashion-deal-site, showcasing women's and children's fashion.

Community has always been important to Sue. Realizing there would be little volunteering time once in business, Sue started Wear Those Deals Gives Back. She is excited to see this program prosper as her business grows. She's passionate about supporting local businesses and using social media to connect.

Sue runs, shops, gardens and entertains - her circle of friends and her family are her greatest achievements, and she gets enormous satisfaction from founding WearThoseDeals and the WearThoseDealsGivesBack program. It’s hard work but worth it!

Heather Walker - Virtually Behind The Scenes

Heather Walker
Virtually Behind The
Scenes

Heather enjoys helping others, whether that’s in her business as a Virtual Assistant, volunteering within various organizations including SWAN or simply when thinking about how she can help others in their businesses. She is warm, friendly and has a passion for life.

Heather’s business, Virtually Behind the Scenes, is an administrative lifeline for coaching professionals who practice in a variety of fields (Executive, Business, Health, Life) and their clients, where she takes care of details and facilitates relationships, for people who care.

Prior to starting her business, Heather held a 30-year career in the public sector at a management level that was repeatedly hit with budget cuts and downsizing.  The light came on when her coach asked “What is it time for and what do you really want?” and so her entrepreneurial journey began.  She had to shake the “I am an employee mindset” and now fully embraces the benefits of her new lifestyle. She keeps a healthy balance by having a sense of humor, exercising every day which gives her time to think, having routines, being organized and immersing herself and her senses in what she likes to do.

Advice she offers to new entrepreneurs is to trail blaze meticulously; analyze each step, understand why you are doing it, deliver it enthusiastically and then, make changes; don’t agree to take on everyone as a client; follow-up with contacts every time.

Heather joined SWAN 2 years ago because she was a new business owner and wanted other women to play with. She discovered a group of like-minded, supportive women who were fun to be around.
